A pedestrian was taken to the hospital early Tuesday morning after being struck by a white Chevy SUV in Tampa, WFLA News reported. The accident occurred near 13th Street North and Hillsborough Avenue East, at around 12:21 a.m.
Very limited information was available about the circumstances of the accident. Fox 13 News reported that the driver of the SUV remained on the scene. Hillsborough Avenue was closed for about five hours while police investigated the incident.
Cause of the March 30th Hillsborough Avenue Accident
Tampa Police are investigating the cause of the accident. With so limited information available, it is impossible to know what happened or exactly how the accident occurred. Law enforcement investigations can sometimes reveal exactly what happened, and sometimes reveal more questions than answers.
In this case, there is no indication that impairment played a role in the crash. If it appears that a driver was under the influence of alcohol following an accident, the driver may be taken into custody. If a driver was speeding or otherwise driving recklessly, they could be issued a citation or ticket. A driver may still be responsible for a pedestrian accident even if they are not arrested, cited, or ticketed. No information was available to indicate the driver was arrested or cited.
Pedestrian Accident Injuries
People on foot do not have protective gear or helmets to offer protection when they are struck by a vehicle. Pedestrian accidents cause some of the most catastrophic, life-changing injuries, including:
- Spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Broken bone injuries
- Amputation/dismemberment injuries
- Sprains and strains
- Burn injuries
- Blunt trauma injuries
An accident can be life-changing, and individuals who are victims of pedestrian accidents may spend weeks or months in the hospital or in rehabilitation facilities. Some accident victims may be permanently disabled, and unable to ever work again.
Common Causes of Florida Pedestrian Accidents
Having more than a decade of experience advocating for victims of devastating accidents, the Coleman Law Group has represented many pedestrian accident victims. Some of the common causes of pedestrian accidents that we have seen in Florida include:
- Distracted driving
- Driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs
- Falling asleep at the wheel
- Failing to look/see or misjudging the speed of a pedestrian crossing a road.
If an accident was caused by the negligence of a vehicle driver, or by a traffic signal malfunction or road design defect, the injured victim may pursue a personal injury claim for damages. Compensation available may include medical care expenses, lost earnings, and pain and suffering. When injuries are serious, the financial effects of an accident can be devastating, and compensation may be substantial. However, without a skilled and experienced attorney representing you, it may be extremely challenging to recover fair compensation for your injuries.
