Five people were hurt after a Chevrolet van crashed into a Tampa restaurant Wednesday afternoon, Fox 13 News reported. The incident happened at the First Watch on Fowler Avenue at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5.
It is always unfortunate when innocent bystanders are hurt. Our thoughts go out to all injured last week in this accident. We wish them the best for a speedy recovery.
Cause of the Fowler Avenue Injury Accident
Law enforcement is investigating the cause of the accident. Without more information, it is impossible to know why this crash during a busy lunch hour occurred. Driving into a restaurant is rarely intentional. These incidents most often involve disoriented elderly drivers, or drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol. In the aftermath of the pandemic, sidewalk or curbside dining is on the rise, and we are seeing a growing number of accidents.
Outdoor dining in close proximity to moving or parking vehicles increases vulnerability for patrons, as it is not always possible to remain safe. Restaurants also have a duty to ensure patrons are protected, risks are mitigated when possible, and foreseeable events are prevented.
Occasionally, accidents happen because drivers lose control of their vehicle. When patrons are injured while on restaurant property, they may have the right to seek damages for medical expenses, lost earnings, and pain and suffering.
Liability For Accidents Caused by Drivers Who Lose Control
In Florida, drivers must operate vehicles with reasonable care. When they lose control of a vehicle innocent bystanders can be hurt and suffer injuries like broken bones, head injuries, or spinal cord injuries. In an instant, a car accident can cause long-lasting, catastrophic, or permanent injuries. When an accident is caused by someone else’s negligence or recklessness, the victim may have the legal right to seek compensation for their injuries. A skilled and experienced Tampa personal injury attorney can advise victims of their legal rights, and options to pursue an insurance claim or personal injury lawsuit.
